Anime Expeditions units are more useful when you read them as parts of a team instead of as isolated damage screenshots. A unit can be a cheap opener, a long-range lane holder, a boss-focused carry, a status specialist, an economy slot or a support piece. Its element, archetype, trait, stat potential, equipment, placement cost and upgrade curve all change whether it fits the stage you are actually trying to clear.
This visual Dex lists currently documented names and forms without pretending that every live value has been captured. Use it to identify a unit, open the detailed pages, and build a shortlist. Before spending Gems, evolution materials or rerolls, compare that shortlist with the live Summon banner and the unit panel in your server.
Find the unit job your team is missing
Look for low placement and early-upgrade costs, dependable coverage and enough speed to stop the first leaks. Test the real cash curve; a famous endgame form may arrive too late to open.
Compare sustained damage, target count, range, attack timing and how quickly the unit reaches its important upgrade. A carry should match the length and enemy profile of the mode.
Prioritize reliable single-target output or effects that remain useful against the boss. Check whether the stage resists, cleanses or punishes the damage pattern you plan to use.
Judge the slot by what it enables: more cash, safer timing, stronger allies or better lane control. Do not compare a non-attacking unit to a carry using damage alone.
Read element and archetype before rarity
The roster uses elemental and archetype labels. Public assets document Dark, Farm, Flame, Gale, Hydro, Light, Neutral, Storm and Terra elements, plus Magical, Physical and Psychic archetypes. These labels are useful filters, but their exact combat interactions are update-sensitive. Open the stage information and the unit panel together; do not assume an advantage chart from another anime defense game applies here.
Open the complete Elements guide and unit index to compare all nine icons, documented unit assignments and the special economy role of Farm without relying on an invented weakness cycle.
Use the interactive Archetypes guide to open the Physical, Magical and Psychic visual rosters, compare their dedicated buffs and check which stage rules still need live verification.
Use the icon to match Dark units and stage requirements. Exact bonuses or penalties: Needs in-game verification.
A roster and stage filter, not proof that every Flame unit fills the same role.
Check the live enemy and mode rules before treating Magical damage as the preferred answer.
Compare actual performance against the same stage rather than ranking by archetype name.
Keep a different archetype ready when a modifier or enemy makes your first plan inefficient.
Effects are a second layer of unit identity
The community wiki also separates named combat effects from elements and archetypes. Its current reference snapshot documents 17 Effects across Damage-over-Time, Soft Crowd-Control, Hard Crowd-Control, Marks and Miscellaneous. Open the interactive Effects guide to filter every documented entry and click through to detailed damage, control and Mark pages.
Compare Black Fire, Bleed, Burn, Austere Flames and Mana Burn by factor, ticks, duration and documented appliers.
Compare Slow, Stagger, Dismembered, Freeze, Rewind, Stun and Shadow Rewind by bracket and timing.
Open Illusion, True Saint Mark, Puppet Mark and Crimson Mark details and testing notes.
Rarity roster snapshot: 54 documented names and forms
The Miraheze Units index and UnitData snapshot checked on 2026-07-28 contains 54 unit entries and forms: 6 Secret, 5 Exclusive, 23 Mythic, 8 Legendary, 6 Epic and 6 Rare. Parenthesized names are separate documented forms in the index, not cosmetic aliases. This count is a community-Wiki baseline; compare the live Unit Dex and Summon pool before treating it as complete.
Use the rarity shortcuts to jump to a group. A linked name opens a detailed guide on this site. “Base portrait shown” means the form is listed separately by the Wiki but the local asset set does not include a verified form-specific portrait.

How to inspect a unit before you invest
Open the unit in your inventory and read the complete panel, including form name. Record its starting placement cost, each upgrade cost, targeting options, range, attack timing, placement limit and any effect text. Then open the same stage you are farming and ask when the unit can realistically be placed. The cheapest successful deployment wave matters more than a fully upgraded showcase that your run never reaches.
Run one comparison at a time. Keep the map, difficulty, party size, speed setting, trait and equipment unchanged. Replace only the unit being tested. Note where leaks begin, when the boss is defeated and how much cash remains. This simple method separates real account improvement from a favorable clip or a different support setup.
Base forms, evolved forms and duplicate copies
Names in parentheses usually identify a distinct documented form, such as Crow (Black Fire), Cursed Student (True Love) or Reaper (Released). Do not assume the base portrait and evolved form have the same performance. Lock or favorite a valuable copy before opening evolution menus, and read the preview carefully. The live preview is the authority for consumed materials, retained traits, stat potential and any irreversible choice.
If you pull a duplicate, wait before selling or feeding it. A second copy may help when a placement limit permits it, when different traits serve different modes, or when a future form needs a base unit. Those uses are account- and update-dependent, so check the current inventory options first.
Build a five-role team instead of five famous units
A balanced first draft contains an opener, sustained lane damage, a boss answer, a utility or control slot, and either economy or a second damage profile. The exact number of loadout slots and placement limits should be read in the live interface. The principle still helps: every slot should answer a failure you can name.
When a run loses early, lower the cash curve before chasing more maximum damage. When it reaches the boss but times out, keep the opener and replace a redundant mid-wave unit with concentrated damage. When special enemies leak, inspect element, archetype and effect interactions. When the team works solo but collapses in a squad, coordinate placement limits and cash rather than deploying four copies of the same plan.
For current role-based recommendations, use Best Teams & Roles and the unit tier list. Those pages explain the criteria behind recommendations instead of treating a tier letter as a command.
Traits, equipment and stat potential
Traits and equipment can make a good fit better, but they do not repair a unit assigned to the wrong job. First prove that the unoptimized unit reaches its key upgrade and contributes to the stage. Then use the Traits guide to choose a reroll goal and the Equipment guide to compare compatible pieces.
Stat potential or grade systems should be handled the same way: lock strong results, avoid rerolling every copy at once, and preserve enough resources for progression. Exact grade ranges, lock costs and reroll behavior are live data. Read the current UI before confirming a reroll.
Common roster mistakes
- Ranking by rarity alone. Rarity does not reveal the placement curve, map coverage or whether a unit fills a missing role.
- Comparing different test conditions. A new trait, equipment piece, support buff or party member can make the unit comparison meaningless.
- Consuming the only base copy. Check the evolution preview, lock the unit and confirm what remains after the action.
- Ignoring availability. A current recommendation may be limited, tied to a banner or unavailable in the build you are playing.
- Using a tier list as a shopping list. Start with your next progression wall and the resources you actually own.
- Assuming community values are live values. Community pages are excellent discovery tools, but the current server panel wins when details differ.
Units FAQ
What is the best unit in Anime Expeditions?
There is no reliable universal winner. Current community rankings place several units near the top of specific roles, but the best choice for you depends on mode, cost curve, owned supports, stage enemies and availability. Start with the tier list criteria, then test on your target stage.
How do I know whether a form is evolved?
Use the live unit and evolution panels. Public records often show a form name in parentheses, but only the game can confirm the current route and consumption rules. Never evolve from a screenshot alone.
Should I reroll a new unit immediately?
Usually, prove the unit’s job first. Trait resources are more valuable when spent on a unit that already fixes a real progression problem. See best traits by unit role before setting a goal.
Is this a complete Anime Expeditions Unit Dex?
It is a currently documented working Dex, not a guaranteed complete live roster. New banners, events and updates can add or remove availability. Missing fields are intentionally left unclaimed.
