Best Anime Expeditions Traits by Unit Role

Choose Anime Expeditions traits for carries, openers, bosses, supports and economy units, with practical first tests for Crow, Dark Mage, Cursed Immortal and Razorjaw.

The best Anime Expeditions trait is the one that changes a real clear. Start from the unit’s job and observed failure, then compare the live trait description with that problem. This guide gives a first test and a stopping rule; it does not invent permanent trait percentages or claim that a rare icon always wins.

Checked July 28, 2026: trait names and reroll route are community documented. Exact effects, odds, pity and unit interactions need in-game verification. Recommendations below are role-based tests, not official best-in-slot assignments.

Quick role-to-trait decision matrix

Unit job
First trait family to test
Keep it when
Do not assume
Early opener
Speed or Strength family, based on the first leak
the opener stabilizes an earlier wave with the same cash
a rare endgame trait repairs an unaffordable placement cost
Lane carry
Range, Speed or Strength after checking coverage
the useful breakpoint clears more consistently
maximum card damage equals better path coverage
Boss answer
Strength or timing-focused result
the same boss phase ends earlier or becomes reliable
total match damage measures boss contribution
Economy
Investor only if the live effect fits that unit
the return arrives before the decisive wave
every non-attacking unit can use the same trait
Support or control
Range or Speed when it changes uptime and coverage
allies clear more reliably under the same conditions
personal damage is the correct score

Crow (Black Fire)

Crow (Black Fire) is community documented as Dark and Magical with Black Fire and illusion-related effects. First test whether its live range covers the intended bend. If it misses meaningful path length, compare Range 1/2 or Optics after reading current descriptions. If enemies pass between attacks, compare Speed 1/2 or Bolt. If timing and coverage already work, Strength or an appropriate named trait may improve its damage role.

Do not declare Draconic, Primordial, Forsaken, Unbound or another rare result best from rarity alone. Read the complete effect, restrictions and whether it applies to Crow’s actual attack and status pattern. Stop at a strong functional result unless you have a protected Crystal reserve.

Use the Crow (Black Fire) guide to verify availability and evolution before rerolling.

Dark Mage (Sovereign)

No verified Sovereign-form image or complete current stat card is available in the local reference set. Begin by confirming the form and role in game. If Sovereign is your lane carry, test range only when added coverage reaches more path; otherwise compare speed at repeated attack gaps or strength against surviving targets.

If a named trait changes targeting, placement or another rule, confirm that the current mode can use it. Keep the existing trait if replacing it would remove the reason the unit clears. See the Dark Mage (Sovereign) guide for a controlled benchmark.

Cursed Immortal (Black Sun)

Black Sun’s exact live effect is not inferred from its name. Watch whether the unit’s contribution is immediate damage, an effect over time, broad wave coverage or something else stated on the card. Timing traits matter only when attacks or refreshes miss important enemies. Range matters only when it extends useful coverage. Strength matters when the effect or hit actually scales as the panel describes.

Named trait interactions with damage-over-time, status, bosses or immunity need direct testing. Keep an understandable functional result rather than risking the account’s whole supply on an unverified synergy. Open the Black Sun guide for the team test.

Razorjaw (Hunter)

“Hunter” does not prove a boss bonus. If the live unit performs as a boss answer, compare results during the boss phase and test strength or timing from that baseline. If it is a wave unit, evaluate coverage and target count first. Range can be valuable at a long bend; speed can matter against spread-out enemies.

Do not pair a trait recommendation with an assumed Predator’s Skull build or Jaw Skull recipe. Those equipment and item relationships require a live check. The Razorjaw (Hunter) guide separates documented assets from verified mechanics.

Economy units and Investor

Investor exists in the documented trait list, but this page does not assert its exact effect or eligible units. When its live description applies to an economy unit, calculate whether the extra return arrives before your mode’s decisive wave. A larger late total is not useful if the team loses while saving.

Compare one complete run with the old result and one with Investor. Record the placement wave, break-even point and cash available at the boss. If the mode is too short for repayment, keep a combat or utility result instead.

Supports, control and non-attacking units

For support, measure team output, uptime and coverage. Range can be valuable when it reaches another carry or path section. Speed can be valuable when it improves how often the live support effect occurs. Strength may be irrelevant if the unit does not deal meaningful damage, but only the unit card can confirm that.

For control, watch the enemies that actually cause leaks. A trait is successful when control reaches them at the right moment. Bosses or special enemies may resist effects, so test the target mode rather than a harmless early stage.

When to keep a basic trait

A basic Range, Speed, Strength or Precision result can be correct when it fixes the stage now. Keep it while you build the rest of the team, collect more Trait Crystals and confirm the long-term unit form. Replacing a useful basic result just before an evolution or balance patch creates unnecessary risk.

Upgrade from basic to named only when the live description offers a clear advantage for the role and your reserve can survive a long reroll sequence. Exact odds and pity should be read in the current interface.

Reroll budget and stop conditions

Choose a reserve that cannot be spent. Then define:

  • a minimum success, such as any result that fixes coverage;
  • a strong success, such as the better family result or fitting named trait;
  • a hard stop, when the reserve line is reached.

The community wiki and a current independent guide report one Trait Crystal per normal reroll, checked July 28, 2026. Confirm the cost on screen. Do not continue because the last several results “must” make the next one rare; that is not how independent rolls work unless the live pity text explicitly says otherwise.

How to compare trait results

Use one map, difficulty, party size, modifier, position, upgrade order, potential and equipment. Record first leak, stability cost, boss result and clear time. Change only the trait when possible.

Run more than once if effects include chance or if enemy movement creates variance. A single lucky clear is weak evidence. Keep the result that improves repeated outcomes for the intended mode.

Common trait-pairing mistakes

  • Giving every carry the same trait without checking range and attack timing.
  • Judging supports by personal damage.
  • Chasing Investor on a unit whose live effect or mode cannot repay it.
  • Comparing a trait change alongside new equipment and potential.
  • Rerolling a base form before checking evolution retention.
  • Assuming a named trait’s title describes every effect.
  • Spending past the protected reserve because of an unverified pity claim.
  • Treating a community tier list as a permanent unit-trait pairing.

Best-traits FAQ

What trait should I keep on a new carry?

Keep a functional result that fixes a measured problem. Range for useful coverage, speed for attack gaps, and strength for a stable pattern are sensible first comparisons; exact live effects decide.

Are rare named traits always better?

Not for every job. Read conditions and restrictions. A simple result that changes your clear can be more valuable than a rare effect the unit or mode cannot use.

Should I reroll before evolving?

Check the Evolution preview first. Trait retention rules can change. It is safer to confirm the long-term form before spending on a base copy.

How do I know when to stop?

Stop at the strong functional result or protected reserve, whichever arrives first. Save enough resources to improve another team role.
