Tournament is the weekly competitive mode documented for Anime Expeditions. It uses rotating stages, random brackets and leaderboard points, so it rewards preparation under a specific ruleset rather than the roster that looks strongest in ordinary Story. The reference page documents both Solo and Duo formats, changing Stage Effects, modifiers and resistances, plus scoring based on either damage dealt or enemies killed.

Open the live board before building a team; a new bracket can change what counts as a good run.

Solo planning
You own every placement, economy choice and support slot. Build a cheap opener, one scalable damage core, a scoring specialist and only the utility allowed by the current effects. Solo is the cleanest way to compare retries because another player's timing does not change.
Duo planning
Divide jobs before launch. One player can own opening coverage and economy while the other preserves upgrades for the scoring carry, but both must understand which actions generate the score. Do not bring two identical teams if the bracket rewards complementary damage or utility.
When damage generates the score
Prioritize sustained target uptime, buffs that apply to the scoring carry and a route that keeps durable enemies inside range. Killing a target too early can reduce the time available to generate damage in some competitive systems, but the exact formula is not stated on the reference page. Follow the live rule text rather than trying to exploit an assumed formula.
When eliminations generate the score
Coverage, spawn handling and reliable finishing matter more than a single oversized boss hit. Avoid leaks and make sure summons, split enemies or modifiers are counted the way the board describes. If the live board uses a different condition, rebuild around that condition.
Documented Season 1 rewards

Toy Maker
The reference records Toy Maker as a Season 1 reward unit. Check the current season board instead of treating it as permanently available.

Ramen Guy (Sage)
Recorded as a Season 1 skin reward. Availability and placement tier are live-season information.
Indicator colors
The reference lists color variants at 500 Crowns each. Confirm current colors, price and stock in the Tournament Shop.
Read the bracket before choosing units
The weekly reset is not the only changing part. A bracket can select a stage, resistances, modifiers and scoring condition that favor a different team from the previous week. Capture or write down the live rules before moving equipment or rerolling a trait. If a unit is locked after entry, test it in Story or Sandbox first.
Start with the scoring condition. Damage dealt calls for uptime and amplified output. Enemies killed calls for full-lane coverage and reliable finishes. A highest-wave format belongs to Global Tournament, which has its own guide. Do not import a strategy from one scoreboard into another because the word “Tournament” appears on both.
Build a reproducible score run
Run one baseline attempt without expensive changes. Record final score, the wave or timing where the score slowed, the unit that generated most value and unused currency. For the next attempt, change one variable: earlier carry upgrade, different placement, second damage type or better economy timing. If several variables change, the result will not show what improved the score.
Stage Effects can reverse a normal tier list. Trait restrictions reduce the value of heavily optimized units. Resistance can make a lower-ranked alternate type the correct carry. Placement limits reward units that perform more than one job. Read every effect and select roles first: opener, scorer, support, durable-target answer and economy.
Crowns and spending
The reference uses Crowns as the Tournament Shop currency. Open the complete live shop and the season reward track before spending. Cosmetic indicator colors can be a clear personal goal, but they should not displace an account upgrade unless appearance is the goal you deliberately chose. The reference price of 500 Crowns for indicator colors is a snapshot, not a guaranteed current price.
Common Tournament mistakes
- Entering with a Story preset before reading the scoring condition.
- Copying a top team’s units without its placement and upgrade timing.
- Treating Season 1 rewards as current-season drops.
- Changing traits or equipment after one poor run when the real issue is routing.
- Joining Duo without assigning opener, economy and scoring ownership.
- Spending Crowns before viewing the whole shop and reset timer.
