To evolve a unit in Anime Expeditions, go to the Lobby’s Upgrades Room, open Evolve, select the correct base copy and follow the requirements shown by the live result preview. The menu—not an old recipe image—decides which materials, quantities, currency and prerequisites are required.
Step 1: choose the evolution that solves a problem
Name the stage and failure first. If you leak before an expensive unit can be placed, another late carry may not help. If a boss survives, prioritize a form whose live attack pattern contributes during that phase. If a modifier punishes one element, archetype or effect, choose coverage that the stage information supports.
Compare your candidates in the Evolution form index, Units Dex and Best Teams & Roles guide. A form already close to completion can be a better first investment than the highest name on a community tier list.
Step 2: protect the correct base copy
Open Units and select the exact base unit. Check form name, level, trait, stat potential, equipment and any special state. Favorite or lock it using the current inventory control. If you own duplicates, identify the copy you intend to evolve before entering Upgrades.
Take a screenshot or write down its fields. This gives you a reference after evolution and prevents selecting a lower-potential or differently traited duplicate.
Step 3: open the live result preview
Return to the Lobby, enter the Upgrades Room and choose Evolve. Select the protected copy. Confirm that the displayed result name is the expected parenthesized form, such as Crow (Black Fire), Cursed Student (True Love) or Reaper (Released).
Read every requirement:
- unit and form;
- any level, account or mode prerequisite;
- unit-specific materials;
- Sprite colors;
- currency;
- quantity of every item;
- warning about what will be consumed or retained.
If a field differs from a community page, follow the game. Do not merge two conflicting recipes or guess which one is newer.
Step 4: build a material checklist
Write only the values shown by your server. Match item names, not just silhouettes. Colored Sprites can look similar at small sizes. Distinguish Trait Crystals, stat resources, equipment resources and evolution materials.
Confirm target form and quantity. Themed names do not prove a recipe without the preview.
Record color and count separately. Do not substitute another Sprite.
Keep it for the chosen form until the preview is ready to confirm.
Farm the requirement plus a reserve for the new form’s deployment and upgrades.
Step 5: farm from the current source
Select a missing item and open its tooltip. Inspect the current Story, event, Raid, Expedition, Shop or other reward panel that names it. Confirm difficulty and act. If the game does not show a source, treat external source and drop-rate claims cautiously.
Farm one shortage at a time. Reopen the Evolution preview after an update, server restart or event change. Exact drops, probabilities and Shop prices are live fields and are not guaranteed by this guide.
The Items visual index helps identify documented icons. It does not turn an inactive asset into a current drop.
Step 6: check trait, potential and equipment retention
Before confirming, compare the selected copy with your saved record. Read any warning about level, trait, potential and equipment. Unequip equipment when required and confirm that it returns to inventory.
If the game does not clearly state whether a valuable trait remains, stop. It is safer to confirm the rule than to lose a rare result. In general, optimize the long-term form after evolution, but the live interface decides.
Step 7: confirm once
Verify:
- correct base copy;
- correct result name;
- correct materials and quantities;
- acceptable currency balance afterward;
- equipment handled;
- trait and potential behavior understood;
- no active update or server issue affecting the menu.
Then confirm and wait for the result. Do not click repeatedly if the interface lags. Reopen Units and verify that the new form exists before leaving or spending more resources.
Worked example: Crow (Black Fire)
The Miraheze Crow (Black Fire) entry reports one Crow’s Ring, 20 Red Sprites, 20 Yellow Sprites, 20 Purple Sprites, three Rainbow Sprites and 10,000 Gold.
Use those values to estimate inventory, then replace them with whatever the current Evolve panel shows. Favorite Crow, verify that the result says Crow (Black Fire), and inspect retention before confirming. See the full Crow guide for team testing.
If the evolution is missing
The form does not appear
Check that you selected the base unit, not another form or duplicate. Read any level, account or mode prerequisite. Confirm that the route is currently available and that the server is updated. A limited or event-linked form may not be open.
A material is not recognized
Match exact item name and color. Reopen inventory and the preview. Do not substitute Crow Relic for Crow’s Ring or one Sprite color for another unless the game explicitly permits it.
You own the items but cannot confirm
Check currency, unit locks, equipped items, inventory state and every prerequisite line. Leave and reopen the menu once. If a live server issue persists, consult official announcements rather than repeatedly consuming or purchasing items.
The recipe differs from a guide
Use the live recipe. Note the server and date, then ignore the old quantity. Community pages can lag behind balance or event changes.
After evolution: verify the new form
Open the evolved unit and record its trait, potential, level, equipment slots, element, archetype, effect text, placement cost and upgrade path. Do not assume the base form’s behavior. If a matching evolved image is unavailable, rely on the displayed form name rather than a base portrait.
Run a familiar stage without immediate rerolls. Learn the first useful upgrade and role. Compare the new form with your old team under the same conditions. Only then spend Trait Crystals, stat rerolls or Equipment Rerolls.

- Farming from an undated recipe before opening Evolve.
- Selecting the wrong duplicate.
- Matching by portrait while ignoring the form name.
- Confusing materials with similar icons.
- Spending down to zero and being unable to upgrade the evolved unit.
- Assuming trait, potential and equipment retention.
- Following a drop rate that has not been verified in the current build.
- Evolving for tier status instead of a real progression wall.
- Showing base-form art as if it represented the evolved form.

Why can’t I evolve my unit?

Should I reroll traits before evolving?
First read retention. Optimizing the long-term form after evolution is often safer, but the current preview decides what carries over.
Can I trust exact recipes from the wiki?
Use them as dated preparation references. This guide labels Crow’s values with the source and check date. The live Evolution preview supersedes every external recipe.
